Wyclef Jean, the main rapper for the Fugees, is sitting right in front of me. A few years ago he ran for President of Haiti (because… why not?). Now he’s starting a program to mentor musicians from all over the country. He learned how to play 15 different musical instruments by the time he was in high school. He grew up in the slums of Haiti, then Brooklyn, then East Orange. He was an outcast and a permanent refugee. Are ever an outcast? From friends? Loves?
